“EFIT: Out of the Pit of Depression” is the 20th installment of the Online EFT Workshop Series, designed to deepen and hone your EFT skills.
Depression is one of the most common concerns therapists encounter in clinical practice. Whether it is the primary presenting concern or occurs alongside relationship distress, anxiety, trauma, grief, or other life challenges, most therapists will regularly work with clients struggling with depressive symptoms.
Depression can leave clients feeling stuck, disconnected, numb, hopeless, and alone. It can also leave therapists feeling stuck—wondering how to help clients who seem to lack the energy, hope, or motivation needed to move forward.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) offers a powerful way of understanding and working with depression. Grounded in attachment science and the transformative power of emotion, EFIT helps therapists look beyond depressive symptoms to explore the emotional pain, attachment needs and longings, and protective strategies that may lie underneath.
This workshop will demonstrate how therapists can enter and attune to the emotional world of clients struggling with depression, make sense of their protective strategies, access and deepen underlying emotions, and help clients reconnect with important attachment needs and longings. Participants will also explore how EFIT can help clients move from emotional isolation and stuckness toward greater engagement, connection, and hope.
Through teaching, clinical examples, and video demonstrations, participants will learn a practical, attachment-informed EFIT roadmap for working with depression that can be readily integrated into clinical practice.
