Workshop: Managing In-Session conflict in Couple and Family Therapy

Oct 17, 2020
10 am-5 pm

Description
Psychotherapy with couples or families is typically tougher than working with individuals because of the potential explosion in your office.

Couples and families are hurting and often their hurt manifest as anger and explosion within the session. Regardless of the type of therapy you do with couples and families, therapists need to manage the emotion in the room in order to be helpful for them. Otherwise, we can easily get swallowed up by their emotional hurts. The focus of this workshop is to give you some practical ways to better manage the conflict that are happening within your sessions. The workshop will:
  1. Help you understand what the anger and explosion are about through the attachment frame
  2. Give you the tools and practical ways to manage the situation
  3. Offer you opportunities to practice these skills in a safe environment
  4. Teach you how to turn these explosive interactions into productive encounters

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:
  1. Gain confidence and competence in working with couples and families
  2. Develop practical tools in managing the conflict that are happening within your sessions
  3. Learn to manage their own anxiety in therapy when dealing with escalating clients

Who should attend
Psychotherapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Pastors, Marriage and Family Therapists, etc.
